About

Dr. Gary R. Walton was born in Winnipeg, Canada, and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He was an honor graduate of Davidson College and received his medical degree from Emory University’s School of Medicine. He completed his internship in surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City and his residency in urology at that center’s J. Bentley Squire Urologic Clinic. He has presented research papers at several professional meetings and his research has been the basis for both textbook articles and professional journals. Dr. Walton has been involved in leadership at both Athens hospitals including being the former president of the medical staff at St. Mary's Hospital and is currently head of urology and serves on the Medical Executive Committee at Athens Regional Medical Center. He is also a board member of CAAP (Community Aligned Association of Physicians), an organization promoting independent physicians and providing quality healthcare. He has particular interest in minimally invasive surgery, including seed implants and cryotherapy for prostate cancer. Dr. Walton has extensive pediatric training and provides care to children of all ages with urologic problems. He and his wife, Nancy, have one son, Nicholas, and enjoy traveling (when they can find the time).
