November 15, 2021

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, cranberry recipes and canned sauces are making their fall appearance. Cranberries are considered a superfood, which means that they are packed full of health benefits. Many people know cranberry juice to be a lifestyle hack for preventing and helping reduce the amount of UTI’s they may experience. But how much truth is behind this common practice?

For actual urinary health, cranberries must be ingested in high quantities. There are conflicting studies about this issue, but it is generally agreed that cranberry capsules are more helpful than just the juice. The more concentrated intakes of cranberries are going to contain more antioxidants that are linked to fighting off bacteria in the urinary tract. So even if you don’t see a difference in your urinary health, there are 5 other benefits that you may notice!

  1. They are full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. Cranberry consumption was linked to having lower traces of c-reactive protein, which high levels of are an indication of inflammation. The antioxidants are great for helping prevent cell damage.

  2. They boost your immune system. One of the primary antioxidants that cranberries contain is vitamin c, which is important for maintaining your immune system and your body.

  3. Excellent source of fiber- cranberries are made of digestive fibers. These are great for keeping your digestive system functioning healthily. Adequate fiber intake is also great for weight loss.

  4. Although there is no guaranteed cancer prevention, cranberries contain nutrients that studies show help prevent tumors and slow down current tumors' growth. They also offer the potential for helping those who have a family history of cancer develop a stronger immune system.

  5. They are low-calorie snacks! Although cranberries are full of a lot of antioxidants, they are not full of calories. This makes them a great guilt-free snack that you can enjoy as much as you want!

You can eat them fresh, dried, baked into a cobbler, or even as a sauce. Cranberries provide delicious flavor and many health benefits!
