She may be the newest member of the Athens Area Urology team, but she certainly isn’t new to the field; please give a warm welcome to Dr. Catherine Schwender! With over a decade of experience in urology, AAU is thrilled to start off the brand new year with Dr. Schwender, who will be officially joining us on January 1st, 2020.

Schwender has an extensive background of experience. She attended several acclaimed universities. Catherine graduated from Emory University in 1995 as a Biology major. She then further continued her education and received an MD from the Medical College of Georgia in 2001. From 2001-2007, Schwender completed her post-doctoral training and residency for both general surgery and urology at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. After, she worked at Georgia Urology for 3 years and then joined The Urology Group of Athens in 2010.

Dr. Catherine Schwender is proudly certified by the American Board of Urology. In addition, she holds a subspecialty certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.

In her free time, Catherine loves horseback riding, cycling, and camping. Both her and her husband, Jim, even own a horse boarding facility nearby in Bogart. Just like her father, Nick Bath MD, who was also a urologist until he retired recently, Dr. Schwender has held a long-term passion for urology.
