Male Incontinence Treatment

October 8, 2019

Many of our patients often feel embarrassed when they schedule an appointment for urinary incontinence. However, this problem is more prevalent than what the majority of our clients assume. This condition is known as Overactive Bladder (OAB). Thankfully, despite popular belief, urinary incontinence can be treated. Although male incontinence is primarily caused by becoming older, this does not necessarily mean it is completely unmanageable.

The two types of urinary incontinence include stress and urge. Stress incontinence is caused when someone sneezes, laughs, does physical activity, or coughs. Meanwhile, urge incontinence occurs when there is a desperate, sudden need to use the bathroom. For urge incontinence, leakage happens before you can make it to the restroom in time. For a majority of individuals, urinary incontinence includes both of these forms, although one may be more prominent than the other.

Male incontinence treatments may include lifestyle modifications and changes in diet. Additionally, medications may be used to help with OAB. Athens Area Urology also offers several procedures to help with male incontinence symptoms if our patients prefer to not take medication.
