Athens Area Urology, P.C. (AAU) was founded in June 2013 by three of Athens most experienced and respected urologists, Dr. Mark Ellison, Dr. Gary Walton, and Dr. Robert Byrne. They have a combined 60 years of urology practice in the Athens area, before Dr. Ellison's retirement in 2016. AAU's providers offer compassionate urologic care with a foundation of clinical expertise.

Since opening our doors 10 years ago, we have expanded our team with skilled doctors, each specializing in different areas of urology. Dr. Matthew Steele joined the practice in July of 2015, followed by Dr. Dean Clower in 2017 and Dr. Samuel Belknap in 2018. Dr. Carnes was recruited to the practice in the fall of 2019, and Dr. Schwender joined AAU in January 2020. Our newest doctor, Dr. Ericson, joined our team in 2024. Our providers each specialize in different areas in the urology field, together bringing excellent urological care to each and every one of our patients.
